Estimation of swelling characteristics of expansive soils with influence of clay mineralogy

چکیده
In the present study, characterisation and quantitative microanalysis were identified for six expansive soils of which one is natural soil, i.e. black cotton (BC) soil remaining prepared by mixing BC with different percentage bentonite. The samples characterised X-ray diffraction (XRD) scanning electron microscope (SEM). regular or irregular mixed layers justified SEM images. There are superstructures whose spacing can simply be described as ratio soil. d-Spacing was calculated Bragg’s formula observed joint committee on powder standards card equation h-k-l plane it that d-spacing decreased increasing combination. Moisture content taken below optimum moisture content, 15%, 17% 20% to determine swelling pressure found montmorillonite mineral affects characteristics soils.

Swelling Characteristics of Compacted, Expansive Soils
Abstraet-The limitations of existing methods for the prediction of swelling behavior of compacted softs are examined. Both the purely theoretical approach and the purely empirical approach are found to be inadequate. The present study is based on a semi-empirical approach in which a model of swelling behavior is developed leading to equations relating swelling potential or swelling pressure of ...

15 صفحه اولSwelling Clay Mapping For Characterizing Expansive Soils; Results From Laboratory Spectroscopy and Hysens Dais Analysis
Data acquired from the hyperspectral airborne sensor DAIS-7915 over Antequera in southern Spain was processed to yield a quantitative soil swelling potential map based on three physicochemical soil properties currently used in engineering as measures of soil swelling namely cation exchange capacity (CEC), coefficient of linear extensibility (COLE), and Saturated moisture content (SP). The metho...
متن کاملModelling of Swelling Parameters and Associated Characteristics Based on Index Properties of Expansive Soils
Presence of swelling soils under the foundations of civil engineering structures particularly lightly loaded structures has caused serious damages around the globe due to their differential up heaving. In this paper, based on the results of swell tests on bentonite mixed clay, correlations for predicting the swelling parameters (i.e., swell potential and swell pressure) have been proposed. Mixi...

Expansive soils are considered to be the one of the highly problematic soil. These soils undergo large volume change based on the amount of moisture content.. Because of this behaviour, lightly loaded civil engineering structures founded on the expansive soils gets severely damaged. There are several mitigating techniques available to counteract the problems posed by the expansive soils. In rec...
